Steep at first, but that's after only 3km. Then rolling with fewer and fewer views. The last 9 to 10km becomes work. Although the views get nicer, I found the reward at the top moderate. An artificial lake you couldn't sit comfortably by. Quickly turned around for a terrace a bit lower on the mountain
You need to wait and wait, working for 15+ pleasant km with low slopes, thinking where the climb is. Until you reach the last part, a narrow, hairpinned, steep and quiet road through rural stone houses, horses, and peace. A taste of conquer.
Quite a nice, chilled out climb, except the two steeper sections: first right at the start in Villadossola, and the second one just around the hairpins leading to Alpe Cheggio. The central 10 km really let you catch your breath. A highlight is the power plant building in Rovesca and of course the lake at the top.
A beautiful climb that really comes to life in the last 6 km.
The first 3 km you cycle out of Villadossola and it can be quite tough at times.
After that you can cycle your 9km and look over the railing to see how deep the ravine runs under you.
In Antronapiana you can refuel for narrow roads and increasing steepness to come.
To reach the top of the reservoir, you will have to walk 80 metres unpaved, but this is easy to do.
Views are great, despite the fact that it was quite cloudy for me.
