If you come from Eynatten, you will see this straight road in front of you when you cross the viaduct (the road climbs a bit before that). It is not the most beautiful road, but it is the connection between Eynatten and Aachen (otherwise you have to make a detour) and you have to cross the Aachener Wald anyway. You share the road with a lot of car traffic, but they drive carefully. By the way, this does make you ride up the climb a bit harder so you will feel it despite the low percentage. On the first hump and the top, nice view to the back.

NB: If you follow the road to Aachen (from the border free cycle path) you will eventually (in Aachen itself) come across a sign that the path is "Frei" for cyclists. From here on, you may use the road. Do this, because the bike path becomes almost impassable, which is not practical in combination with high speed descents.
