From Podkoren, this climb is one of two mountain passes to Austria. It used to be crowded and dangerous. The road on the Slovenian ( Yugoslavian) side is narrower than from Austria. It is less steep and more steady than the other side. Since there is a tunnel a little further on and cigarettes are not so cheap anymore it is quieter. You can pedal on the good tarmac. It starts out quite tough but for an average climber it should not be a problem. After the wide hairpin bend, there is a viewpoint.... read more

Tedious climb, though fun to do if you are doing a tour of Austria, Italy, Slovenia. There is a limited supermarket at the summit. Well snacks, no sandwiches.

Very short climb - bit of a pre-breakfast one before moving on somewhere else. Pretty quiet roads, and nice smooth tarmac. Went up there too (1) tick it off and (2) to quickly pop over the border and see the tank left there and get a photo :-)

Short climb towards the border with Austria. It is not particularly steep and certainly not long. It can therefore easily be done together with the Vrsic pass, which starts in nearby Kransjka Gora.

After the wide hairpin bend, there is a viewpoint. Stop and take a photo as you can see the whole valley. You are looking at the Kransja Gora slope where it goes very fast during the FIS descent. The road goes on fairly straight and the view disappears through the forest. A few blind bends keep you on your toes, because a motorcyclist sometimes wants to come through the inside bend!
Almost at the top, the road opens, very wide and boring. No view of what lies below you and if you go back you can ride into the valley. If you cross the border, a tough descent awaits you, is not harmless for inexperienced descenders and too much braking can lead to problems. For the car's there are not for nothing run-off lanes in the curves!
There are more beautiful climbs in the area (Vrsic, Mangart) but also this one is nice to take.
