I've also crashed going down it on a road bike, because fallen leaves were covering a lip in the surface. But going down on a road bike you're likely to be locked up on the back and close to locking up on the front when it's anything other than dry. It's only really passable on a road bike in the summer months, and then you still need dry conditions - and low gears. A gravel bike might be a good option. However, don't bother, go up Frith Hill instead.
