The climb starts from a pedestrian and cyclist bridge and immediately starts very steep. A first part is steep, then there is a long spur. You climb past the buildings of Vogelsang, a former Nazi training camp, where there is currently a documentation centre to visit. The 2024 edition of Liege-Paris-Liege did this climb.

I couldn't find the steep part, but the rest is quite fun to ride. So you get to experience some culture too

To get to the climb, you have to take a gravel track along the Obersee. The approach from the overflow in Rurberg to the right along the lake towards the Urft dam wall is interesting, or alternatively to the left with the longer ascent towards Kermeter if you want to gain a few more metres in altitude. This is followed by a long tarmac descent onto the aforementioned gravel path. The actual ascent begins behind the Victor Neels Bridge and is approx. 1.2 kilometres long and has an average gradient of 12.8 % (with peaks of around 18 %). The entire ascent is asphalted and in very good condition, but is very strenuous at times due to the steepness. However, it should be manageable if you pace yourself correctly. Along the way, you will always encounter many hikers and, in the upper section, a few cars driving to the car park of the small indoor swimming pool. Once you reach the top, you are rewarded with a magnificent view and can enjoy an Eifel beer as a reward.

From the suspension bridge over the Urftsee, it goes up very steeply to Vogelsang. Once you reach the complex, it goes further up less steeply. At the top, you have a great view of the complex and the reservoir.

Felt significantly steeper than the profile would suggest.

This climb should be on your Eifel bucket list:

- To get to the beautiful bridge, you have to cycle along the Urft through a gorge on a crazy gravel road. From Gemünd, it is definitely suitable for road bikes.
- The start is winding but with silky smooth asphalt.
- Not only is Vogelsang impressive and unique, so are the views.

After you pass the gatehouse, you do unfortunately have to cycle on a hugely wide windy road. Looks like a runway. But this climb is so unique that it should be high on your list.

Vogelsang: an impressive old Nazi site in the middle of the Eifel! Short but punchy, definitely a climb you must have done once. Climb is not necessarily pretty, you drive up between the trees and then come out at the barracks, which you then drive around again with a steep puff to get to the compound. In the lower, steep part, watch out for walkers, but once at the top you have the space. Once there, be sure to stop for a photo!

From the bridge up to Vogelzang, old military barracks and former NAZI training camp. Short but very spicy. In autumn lots of leaves on the course. Not really fun but cool challenge
