In my opinion a really nice climb. Hairpin bends, tight bends, everything. I recommend going in time, you have little trouble with the day trippers. Once at the top you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Karawanken.... read more

Avoid! There are many vastly better climbs in the neighborhood. The biggest problem is that this climb is a racetrack for motorcyclea. Nobody controls it. I was passed by hundreds of motorcycles today, many well above 100km/h (my radar is quite accurate). Some very very close, just centimeters. God scared so much at one point that I was thinking on going back... Decided to continue. Motor vehicles aside, there is no exposure until the very top of the climb, where you get a nice panorama. Pavement is pretty good. There are many sections with 10-12% gradient, though nothing harder than that. Go to Italy or Slovenia.

A must when you are in Villach, but make sure you'd pace it carefully, as middle section and finish keeps around 10% for quite some time. There are two "resting" parts: at 4th and 13th kilometres. Recently (2025) they put new tarmac, so decent is a pleasure. As finish is at 1600m+, it can be cold even on a summer day

Long climb, which does feel trickier than the profile. There are quite long stretches above 10%, which are then followed by less steep pentes. Along the road you will find several car parks that guarantee nice views. At the summit, you will find a beautiful panorama. The Kaiserschmarrn was not to be sneezed at either :)

Nice, long climb. The road up is a (not cheap) toll road for motorised traffic, so it is quiet climbing. Some sections are very steep but fortunately you very occasionally have a flat section or small stretch down to recover. Views while climbing are limited as you are among the trees a lot. Occasional vistas towards Villach/Slovenia/other mountain ranges. At the top is a car park with terrace.

Mooie, lange klim.

Wonderful climb that is definitely worth a diversion. Although the climb leads through the forest for a large part, you will be treated to views of Villach, as well as Slovenia and Italy, at various points along the way. At the top of the car park, after a short walk, you can enjoy 360-degree panoramic views.

Although the path from the car park to the top of the Dobratsch (2167m) and the 'Dobratsch Gipfelhaus' leads officially a hiking trail, I saw several mountain bikers slogging up there (sometimes with the bike on their back) so maybe a nice challenge for next time.

I cycled up this climb yesterday. It was nice and quiet, little traffic and lots of green trees along the way. It is doable if you divide your strength well. My Garmin regularly indicated a 12% increase. If you like walking, you can walk for kilometres from the top, only then do you get great views. While cycling, you mainly ride between the trees. Along the way, I had a lot of flies that obviously liked me. A couple of times, about 50 of them flew around me, could they have been supporters?

Nice climb to the Dobratsch! The climb is very nice and really steep pieces are not between them. Because cars and motorcycles must pay for access, it is relatively quiet on the mountain. The asphalt is fantastic, making the descent a pleasure.

Every summer as a child I stayed in the region, after I started cycling this climb was soon on the list.
First time the plan was to do the climb from 'home" (30 km approach) and then top with the family a drink. Unfortunately and fortunately just before the small descent at 4 km a broken chain.
The following week I cycled back with a new chain to the top, the road is good, the route is varied, if you make stops at the parking lots and viewpoints it is enjoyable. To ride up is relatively boring.
The year after I did the combi Kanzelhohe (Gerlitzen) and the Villacher; then the legs feel that you already have a tough climb in the legs.
In the summer it can be very hot on the mountain and the sun burns merrily on you down, go early then it is quieter and less hot.
The descent is wonderful and you can enjoy zoeing.
