Valle San Jorio is a long but relatively forgiving climb of over 16 kilometers. With an average gradient of about 6 to 7%, it’s less steep than many other climbs on the north side of Lake Como. In terms of scenery, I didn’t find this to be the most beautiful climb in the area. You ride through the woods for much of the way, so there aren’t many real panoramic views of the surroundings. The pavement is reasonably good on the ascent, but during the descent you’ll encounter some rough patches here and there. You’ll need to pay close attention, especially in the shade of the trees, because potholes and uneven spots aren’t always clearly visible.

In warm weather, it’s wise to bring plenty of water. In the first half, you’ll come across a few water fountains, but in the second half, opportunities to refill your water are limited.

It's a very enjoyable and long climb. The first part, you have a stunning landscape over Como's Lake and Monte Legnone. You can also have the option to follow an alternative shotcut to Castasco as it is out of the main traffic and it looks like a Cycle path.
Once you reached Garzeno (water source), you soon join a fresh and welcoming wood for several kms. The gradient is always regular and comfortable along all the climb.
You find another water source nearby the Adventure Park.

Close to Rifugio Mottafoiada, towards Rifugio San Giovo the road STOPS bein PAVED but has an EXCELLENT surface. Although I used the gravel bike, I perceived the route as comfortably "STRADE BIANCHE", with a smooth gradient and a very smooth and little uneven surface. So it deserves to follow it until the END. The last 2.2 km to PASSO SAN JORIO are more MTB/E-BIKE mood.
