Beautiful landscape and some short walls to climb, worth the Maloja effort. The surrounding area is windy, here it seems quieter.
To reach the climb you cross a nice village with cafes and light tourism.

Thanks to the status of official protected area, no motorised traffic is allowed, there are no car parks, no ski or chair lifts, no crash barriers, no electricity pylons and a construction ban.
The narrow asphalt road that climbs up the valley starts in the picturesque, traffic-free small centre of Sils Maria and leaves the luxury hotels behind via two steep hairpin bends. After a bit of forest, the road leads into an open panoramic high mountain scenery with a small river and snow-capped peaks and glaciers lining the flanks and end of the valley.
Besides hikers and a few cyclists (many electro MTB), I also encountered horse-drawn carriages for tourist transport.
After the last original authentic Hotel Fex (1850) the asphalt stops, unfortunately.
That in the course of history world-famous writers, philosophers, politicians, musicians and painters stayed in this beautiful natural paradise needs no explanation.

Het smalle asfaltbaantje dat het dal opklimt, start in het pittoresk al verkeersvrije kleine centrum van Sils Maria, en laat via 2 stevige haarspeldbochten de luxe hotels achter zich. Na een stukje woud loopt de weg in een open panoramisch hooggebergte decor met riviertje en besneeuwde toppen en gletsjers die de flanken en het einde van het dal omzomen.
Ik kwam er naast wandelaars en enkele fietsers (veel electro MTB) ook paardenkoetsen tegen voor toeristentransport.
Na het laatste originele authentiek Hotel Fex (1850) stopt spijtig genoeg het asfalt.
Dat in de loop van de geschiedenis in dit prachtig natuurparadijs wereldberoemde schrijvers,filosofen , politici,musici en schilders verbleven hoeft geen verklaring.
In zijn huis in het centrum van Sils Maria schreef Duits filosoof Friedrich Nietzsche over de vallei:
"Eigenlijk bevalt het me nergens, zo goed !".
Komende van de drukke Malojapas,beviel dit fietsritje mij uitermate !
Absoluut doen als je daar in de buurt bent.
