Tom's Hill isn't the toughest climb, but it's nice. When visiting the Chilterns it's important to align your expectations to what the Chilterns have to offer. This isn't the Peak District, after all. Tom's Hill isn't the toughest climb, but it's nice. When visiting the Chilterns it's important to align your expectations to what the Chilterns have to offer. This isn't the Peak District, after all. As with many Chiltern climbs, it's a relatively short effort, more like a sprint, a place you can give it some big watts knowing it won't last long. It also climbs through pleasant woodland, and in the winter there are views through the trees, if you have time to look. The traffic is light, outside of rush hour and the school run. Locally, Tom's Hill is iconic, and it's used for a Hill Climb event annually. You can combine a visit to Tom's Hill with a stop at the cycle cafe in Aldbury - currently Church Farm Cafe, previously Musette Cafe. But you might want a longer warm up after the cafe than the 500m available if you're going to give it some beans.

A moderately steep climb, but fairly busy with traffic. Not much to see, so a mediocre climb.
