Whereas the Horseshoe Pass takes a relatively easy curving ascent to the summit this route just goes straight up the mountain side, I missed out the first part from Llangollen and started from the village of Pentredwr where the climb really gets going - 1,6 km av.12.6%. As a nice alternative try the community cafe in Llandegla - 15 min ride to the north.

Start of the climb is nice and easy albeit on a main road. Once you get on to the oldshoe the real climb starts. Narrow road, can just about pass any cars coming down. Rewarded with a coffee stop at the top.
