A climb of two parts. The start of the climb is on awful tarmac - broken up, lumpy patch repairs and a lot of loose grit, not to mention the steep gradient. Despite staying seated I got some wheel spin. At the top of of the steep section (just before a cattle grid) it really rears up - Veloviewer gives 15-17%, my gps recorded 25-29%. Push through that because after the cattle grid you're on part 2 of the climb - perfect tarmac (which lasts all the way to the cattle grid at the bottom... read more

Push through that because after the cattle grid you're on part 2 of the climb - perfect tarmac (which lasts all the way to the cattle grid at the bottom of the descent) and you're riding on open mountain side with sweeping views. At the top of the final steeper section there is a left turn. You've still got 1.6 km to reach the high point on the road but it's lovely finish - the road undulates but is never steep and the views are fantastic. More than worth the initial struggle up the first part of the ascent.
