Short but tough climb. Nice as a warm-up. Climb ends in an uninspiring ski village. The curves are of sufficient beauty.

Make this climb 1.5 km shorter and you really do have a beast. Starts off fairly easy, but then it's all hands on deck. The hairpins in Le Sauze and the traverse in Enchastrayes are two tough sections. Doable as a single climb but, if like me you already have the St.-Anne and the col de Larche in your calves at the start, this is killer. Like so many roads to ski resorts, this one is of wide and immaculate tarmac. Given the summer, there was little traffic.

A climb that becomes quite steep after 3km al direct. A tough warming-up climb, especially because of the short distance of the climb. Road surface is generally good to very good. Had a lot of trouble with mosquitoes during the climb. Just before the end, the climb flattens out a bit so the last 1.5km are fast. At the top in Super Sauze, opposite the ski lift, I enjoy sitting on a terrace in the sun. There is some activity by MTB'ers.
The view was not spectacular, the road was quiet.

August 2017 I cycled up the climb to Super Sauze.
You can cycle from the centre of Barcelonnette along the low-traffic bank of the Ubaye River to the start of the climb at the turn off the main road.
You start with a long straight part on a wide road followed by scattered hairpins winding through villages (a.o. Le Sauze) with panoramic views. Towards the end the climb flattens out with even a slight descent to end after a wide turn via a one-way loop through the summery quiet ski village with apartments and ski lifts.
Information boards every kilometre (distance to summit/altitude and % distance to come).
Just like nearby Pra Loup, this is the ideal (not too long or too steep) warming-up climb on the first day of your holiday, before more serious cycling in the region of Barcelonnette.
