Starts steep through the woods, and the road surface can be a bit rough under the trees. Past the paintball the gradient eases off, allowing the speed to rise, but a few kicks remind you that you are still climbing. The views towards the top over the Exe valley are good, although you wont see them unless you stop and look behind you.

This side of the climb is significantly easier than the other sides of the climb, and has lower traffic, so is a decent cut through into the city of Exeter if you want to avoid the main road along the valley.

This climb was used by the Tour of Britain back in 2014, when the stage finished in Exeter, and is used by the Exeter Wheelers Cycle Club for their annual hill climb.
