Can't believe it - not a single review of The Snake on here! It's pretty famous among road cyclists: even southerners like me have heard of it. I rode it in 1999 on a lovely summer evening with a decent tailwind, so flew up it. I was lucky to have light traffic but I know it gets horribly busy these days. A few years back it was closed to cars for repairs, and cyclists flocked to it then as to a shrine. It is a wide main road that lazily bends with easy grades on its way up into the featureless moorland bleakness. Not the prettiest part of the Peak District!
