A Long steady drag out of Kendal. Never really steep, with just two pitches that might just about reach double figures. But your climbing for a good half hour. Once past Selside, your into wilder country, so be aware of the wind direction. It can also be very different weather at the top. I've had snow in May. Makes a great loop from Kendal and back through Tebay and Grayrigg, with a mile or so between the M6 carriageways. Don't be put off by this being the A6. The traffic on this road is usually pretty light. Having been the main road to Scotland until the mid 70s, it's also very wide. So despite the speed difference between a cyclist and vehicles, it's never intimidating.
