This is a must do climb in the area, but maybe just the once. Once you leave the village, the road turns bad and it is very heavy to cycle up… although to be honest it’s better going up than down. It is steep but scenic. It will be very unusual to see any traffic on the climb at all. The final KMs level off onto a plateau and the road is cobbles at this point, which are actually more pleasant than the poor road surface. This is the highest point on the west side of the Minho region. There ... read more

There is a surprising amount of buildings at the summit considering the poor road surface. There are more routes down to the north, but you’d really, really need to be on a gravel bike or BTT/MTB… otherwise it is back down the same way.

Where do I start...? The climb starts fairly easy, passing through some typical villages on good roads. In the last village, you take a turn and the road surface immediately turns bad. Not long after, it also becomes steep and the suffering begins. Mainly due to the combo of bad road surface and steepness. You constantly have to navigate between potholes, even uphill. It is so bad that you cannot really speed downhill either without running big risks's. The last kilometre you come to a cobbled stretch of road actually that runs a lot better than anything that comes before it. The bad road surface notwithstanding; definitely recommended given the beautiful views of the surroundings.
