Sankt Märgen from Buchenbach

Just a nice not difficult climb, nice hairpins in the second part. Descent to St. Peter also fine but quite a lot of traffic.

From Buchenbach, follow the Wagensteig valley gently uphill on a cycle path. Most of the traffic turns off to the right after the large Dold sawmill and the route continues up the Spirzental valley to Thurner. I stay at the bottom of the Wagensteig valley and continue gently uphill without a cycle path. There is little traffic as far as St. Märgen. Past the small village of Wagensteig. After just over two kilometres, the road begins to become steeper, leaves the valley floor and leads up the side of the mountain. This is followed by several hairpin bends. It's fun to gain altitude here. In front of us is the combined heat and power station in St. Märgen. The two towers of the monastery church of St. Märgen are already greeting us here. We still have to ride up there. The last hairpin bend and over open pastures, the road leads up to the village of St. Märgen (890 metres above sea level). There are several places to stop for refreshments in St. Märgen: the countrywomen's café on the left as you enter the village and the Gasthaus Rößle on the right for a meal. I always take a break at the grocery shop at the crossroads towards St. Peter. Very friendly. They also serve cakes and you can sit outside at tables. I love this route up to St. Märgen.
