Long climb (9km) that only gets spicy at the end, not only because the percentages increase but also because you can end up full of wind. As you climb higher, there is nothing here but silence and wind. If you look down over your shoulder, you have a beautiful view of the huge Poulaphousa Reservoir'. In short, the scenery is impressive. Only sheep and lambs keep you company.
Finally, at 500 metres, you arrive at 'Sally Gap'; an intersection of four roads. If you turn left, it is a few kilometres 'flat' and you can - if you want - climb another few kilometres to 740 metres altitude. This is a dead-end climb, though.
The other two turns lead to Roundwood and Laragh. These are very long descents with a climb in between.
