Je rijdt op de - oude - verbindingsweg tussen Beek en Ubbergen en dan verwacht je eigenlijk deze helling niet echt. Maar hij is er dus wel en je maakt ook nog best wat hoogtemeters dus hij is ook echt wel voelbaar. De klinkerweg slingert lichtjes en loopt langs mooie (deels oude) villa's. Best aardig dus.
Today I ended up on this climb quite unplanned, while my legs were already not worth much. And I knew it; it suddenly became quite steep and up to the top it remained a struggle. It is definitely a must if you have to go in that direction. I often ride via the N325 but in the future I'll definitely go via the Rijksstraatweg again (if my legs still feel like it).
Vandaag kwam ik vrij ongepland op deze klim terecht, terwijl mijn benen al niet zo veel meer waard waren. En dat heb ik geweten; het werd ineens knap steil en tot aan de top bleef het aanpoten. Het is wel zeker een aanrader als je die richting op moet. Ik rijd vaak via de N325 maar ga in de toekomst zeker nog eens via de Rijksstraatweg (mits de benen er nog zin in hebben).

De eerste keer vervloekte ik deze weg: niet echt lekker fietsen op scheve klinkers. Maar eigenlijk is deze oude weg naar Kleef veel mooier dan het fietspad langs de N325. Je fietst tussen villa's, oude huizen en langs De Refter, een oud meisjespensionaat dat opvalt tussen het groen als je vanuit de Ooijpolder naar de heuvelrug kijkt. Genoeg om te zien, veel rustiger dan langs de N-weg, groen en niet onbelangrijk: hier kun je wel hoogtemeters maken.
