Geen hoge stijgingspercentages maar wel ruim 3 kilometer vals plat vanaf camping Osebos in Euverem tot aan de kruising met de N-598. Het is constant druk houden op de pedalen en dat voel je dan ook als je aan het einde bij de N-598 bent. Deze weg is een prima alternatief om de saaie fietspaden langs de N-217 en N-598 te vermijden.
Started from Gulpen along the provincial road,278, but very quickly turned left after 1 kilometre to continue my route via this road. What a difference, so much calmer and so much nicer scenery than the 278 which runs only 30 metres next to it. The percentages may be a bit more challenging along the 278, but you really cycle in a relaxed way towards Bruisterbosch, Margraten, Bemelen and Maastricht.
Begonnen vanuit Gulpen langs de provinciale weg,278,maar na 1 kilometer heel snel linksaf geslagen om mijn route te vervolgen via deze weg. Wat een verschil, zoveel rustiger en zoveel mooiere omgeving dan de 278 die maar 30 meter er naast loopt. De percentages zijn langs de 278 misschien iets uitdagender,maar je fiets echt heerlijk relaxed in alle rust richting Bruisterbosch, Margraten, Bemelen en Maastricht.
Very relaxed but beautiful climb through beautiful surroundings. The first part you are in a beautiful valley and also when you pass the sign "built-up area" the surroundings remain mainly green. Only later on you really get between the (often old) houses. The road meanders slightly and has perfect asphalt. As a descent is particularly pleasant.
Zeer relaxte maar mooie klim door een fraaie omgeving. Het eerste deel zit je in een mooi dal en ook als je het bord "bebouwde kom" passeert blijft de omgeving overwegend groen. Pas verderop kom je echt tussen de (vaak oude) huizen terecht. De weg slingert lichtjes en heeft perfect asfalt. Als afdaling is deze bijzonder aangenaam.

A nice climb to warm up on, not steep so easy to do. You can still get a few extra altimeters towards Banholt but then you come to the infamous plateau of Margraten. Full headwind in western wind.
Klim waar je lekker warm op kunt draaien, niet steil dus zeker goed te doen. Je kunt nog even een paar extra hoogtemeters pakken richting Banholt maar daar kom je op het berucht plateau van Margraten. Volle bak wind tegen bij westen wind.
If you come from Gulpen you can cycle on the N278, nice pedalling on the outside but a bit boring, when you have some speed turn right in the direction of Camping Ossebos and after 200 metres turn right and go along the vineyards quietly up to Reijmerstok. When you have passed the village you can turn right to Margraten, turn left to the Loorberg or continue to De Planck in Belgium.
Als je uit Gulpen komt kun je de N278 opfietsen, lekker trappen op het buitenblad maar een beetje saai, ga dan als je een beetje vaart hebt rechtsaf richting Camping Ossebos en na 200 meter rechts dan ga je langs de wijngaarden rustig omhoog naar Reijmerstok. Heerlijk rustig en als je door het dorp bent kun je rechtsaf verder naar Margraten, linksaf naar de Loorberg of door naar De Planck in Belgie.
Is more of a false flat..... Rides it quite often and then I wonder what gear and speed was used to ride it in the 2012 World Time Trial Championships by Tony Martin and other riders....

Niet echt een zware klim. Maar ervaar de rust op deze weg als je uit het drukke Gulpen komt. heerlijk!
