The route from Schwyz to the entrance of the Muotathal is not pretty: lots of cars, close passes up and the road is small. From the valley it gets much better, enjoy the flat section until Stalden. The route from Schwyz to the entrance of the Muotathal is not pretty: lots of cars, close passes up and the road is small. From the valley it gets much better, enjoy the flat section until Stalden. Then the fun starts! The first 4 km are brutal, the gradient is always around 16％ with some parts at 18％. Fully in the forest, a bit like the Mortirolo (but with some cars). Then it eases down a bit, plus you get some nice views. The top is a bit puzzling, there is a long stretch of flattish-descending road, and I missed the sign on the summit. Going down on the other side is way more fun: no cars during the weekend, and you get some surprise views on the Klontalersee, until you arrive next to it! Definitely one of my favorite climbs.

Nice climb. Lovely views. I did this in November and there was some black ice on the road through the forest.
I started in Schwyz to make the climb a bit longer.
