I once did a ride with a mate who wanted to ride up all the climbs to the Ashridge plateau, of which there are 15 or more depending on how you count them. We left out the ones in Hemel Hempstead and for some reason also left out this one. Clearly an omission and we'll need to go and repeat that ride with the extra climb. It's worthy of inclusion in the selection of climbs up the Ashridge, and is arguably the most interesting of the climbs that go up from the canal between Berko and Hem... read more

This one is characterised by a steeper start and a gradual roll off. It goes up between hedges most of the way but there are a couple of places where the views open up nicely. It's definitely worth detouring to this climb from any of the Hemel climbs. There can be traffic, but it's still light. Surface is generally ok, with very limited gravel and potholes.

It works well in combination with descents from the Bovingdon side, when travelling south to north.
