From Saint Gervais les Bains, we descended to Passy. From there through the town to the foot of the Plaine Joux. Well signposted by the way. When you start the climb you're away from most of the traffic. A gradual start with percentages of 6-8 %. After a flatter section and a bit of downhill you enter a remote area towards the top of the col. A very pleasant climb with very few people, and rapidly sublime scenery, right up to the breathtaking final panorama of the Mont Blanc massif. Close to Lac Vert for the descent (by gravel or mountain bike), very nice, otherwise a return trip. The climb is affordable but demanding, with a flat spot in the middle that allows you to take it easy. A beautiful, little-known climb that is easily accessible from Chamonix.

Beautiful climb. Beautiful views and waterfalls. After the plateau, the gradient is a bit higher though, i.e. first 2 km after it 7%. Therefore a bit on the heavy side for a novice climber. Highly recommended though.
After the climb do descend to the green lake. You imagine yourself in the Rocky Mountains...

Prachtige klim.

From Passy, I also did the climb from La Motte, which has a tough start. Once at the col (between km 5 and 6 for the summit), the climb is nice and even, winding through the forest. At the top, a beautiful view of the Mont Blanc is the gift.
I did use the original route for the descent.

Last summer, we did a variation on this climb. We started from Servoz and turned right at La Motte to get to the regular climb after a tough bit of climbing.
From here it is a nice climb with lots of hairpin bends through the woods. On the way back we kept to this route because for the descent this road is much nicer.

Tip: Drive a little further when you reach the top, after a short descent you come to the beautiful Lac Vert (the green lake, see photo). And for dessert you can do this short but steep climb on the way back before you start the beautiful descent of Plaine Joux.
