Long and steady ascent, ideal for those who like to maintain a steady pace. Once you find your stride, you climb with pleasure without any particular jolts. The views are beautiful, especially at the top, although there are climbs in the area with even more spectacular views.

Pila can be started from two sides from the city of Aosta. Both rides end at the ski station on the summit. This is slightly lighter (and less crowded) than the ride via Charvensod. The two climbs are perfect to hurt your legs on a morning or afternoon in between and/or if you have already done one of the beautiful climbs towards Grand Paradiso or the Cervino.
Leaving the towns of Aosta behind, the road winds up through meadows and forests. The Pila rides miss the beautiful views of the mentioned long climbs: it is mainly about firm climbing. There are regular steep parts. The roads are reasonably good. At the top you leave the ski station for what it is and you can enjoy beautiful views of the valley and the Cervino/Matterhorn.
