Cycled up the long dead-end valley of the Vizze river. It is one of the several valleys leading into the wide Eisack valley near my base, the holiday town of Sterzing/Vipiteno. It starts slowly with a well lit tunnel (380m) but just before the half way point (from 4 to 9 km.) there is a steeper climb with some hairpin bends up to the Rieder Stausee. Then followed by long straight stretches of false flat with in my case a strong head wind, through small mountain villages with many farms. The ... read more

The river is crossed several times but then stays on the right side of your route which is flanked in the wide valley on both sides by high snowy mountain chains. The last kilometres to the last inhabited houses of Stein/Sasso are very challenging, where the asphalt road stops just past Gasthof Stein.
MTB bikers can continue to the Passo Vizze (2251m) on the Italian/Austrian border.

Nice long warming-up without extremes!

Mooie lange opwarmer zonder extremen!
