This is a quite tough climb, especially if you rode the Transfăgărășan the day before. The road starts climbing steeply right from Novaci and doesn’t let up until Rânca. There’s a short descent in Rânca where you can catch your breath, because what follows is a series of switchbacks with gradients that often stay in double digits.

And here’s something to keep in mind: Urdele actually has two summits! The first one is marked here on Climbfinder, but if you’re crossing over into the valley on the other side, you’ll face another short descent followed by a final climb to the second summit. In total, from Novaci it’s 34.4 km with 1,930 metres of elevation gain.
