If you want to cycle from Cortina d'Ampezzo to the start of the Tre Cime de Lavaredo at the lake of Misurina, this eight kilometres long wide pass road is an obligatory warming-up, but in practice I found the uneven and winding climb difficult and not to be underestimated. Via a series of hairpin bends the road climbs through a residential area out of the valley (panorama's). Worthwhile if you're in the neighbourhood. More challenging than expected because there were always steep sections and the road was quite busy and fast on a Wednesday afternoon in June.

It can be very busy, but the road is wide and quite safe. At the top there is a bar/hotel for refreshments.

Very heavy traffic, it's the main drag Cortina - Misurina and you can feel it. Winding roads lead through beautiful countryside, but so do almost all the climbs in the Dolomites. On some sections they were adjusting the road and it was regulated by traffic lights

The climb is very beautiful, fairly even and long. As for the traffic, it depends on the day and time of day. Today (Wednesday) I passed by around 2 p.m. and the traffic was really bad. In my opinion it deserves

A mio avviso merita

Fine climb from Cortina that goes through the suburbs into wooded areas. Good tarmac and wide bends make it a pleasant climb for cyclists. Along the way, there are a few places to stop for coffee or lunch. Great climb when, like me, you are staying in. Ordina or are passing through.

Rated no. 60 of Italy’s greatest climbs (according to segments on Strava). I rode this just before sunset as a quick climb to keep my training up. It’s a short climb with a consistent gradient that is enough to get the heart pumping.

Traffic was lite. The road surface still quite good (May 2022) with wide hairpins all the way up (fun for the descent).

The best views of the town are during the first third of the climb. As you continue past the small lake and into the Forrest you’ll pass horses and climb towards the ski lifts. Here the town disappeared into cloud / was obscured by the hills below.

Take some warm kit for the descent. There are some long, straight sections that allow you to gain some speed and I got quite cold, even though wearing a gillet and fingered gloves.

While cycling between the coniferous forests, you pass the small Lago Scin lake and the Rio Gere ski lift with its restaurants.
The last kilometres level off until the pass height which is located between the enormous Cristallo (left.) and
Sorapis massif (right) with its +3000 m. peaks. The summit is a desolate place with a few hotels/parkings and behind a building the three crosses that gave the name to the climb are hidden.

Done this on a holiday at the end of September 2020. The climb starts in the ski village Cortina. In the beginning it is mainly climbing through a residential area and later quite a lot of forest. Views are therefore not very spectacular. The climb itself has a good road surface and it was not extremely busy but I think that has also to do with COVID. It is eventually a through road to popular hiking areas and Tre Cime
