An interesting alternative to get to Faiallo. Compared to the canonical ascent, you climb a little higher and then descend again towards the road. Until Acquabianca, the road is very shady and can therefore be a summer alternative. Arriving at Acquabianca, you can see the landscape of the Ligurian hinterland to the north, while arriving at the top of the climb - the Vassuria pass - you can vice versa have a view from the top of the upper Orba valley to the south, which leads right up to Faiallo... read more

An interesting alternative to get to Faiallo. Compared to the canonical ascent, you climb a little higher and then descend again towards the road. Until Acquabianca, the road is very shady and can therefore be a summer alternative. Arriving at Acquabianca, you can see the landscape of the Ligurian hinterland to the north, while arriving at the top of the climb - the Vassuria pass - you can vice versa have a view from the top of the upper Orba valley to the south, which leads right up to Faiallo.
From the point of view of difficulty, it is a climb that pulls immediately and then lets up for a moment until Acquabianca. From here to the Vassuria pass it pulls again. The road surface is incredibly acceptable. After the Vassuria pass, a fast descent to rejoin the Faiallo road near Vara. The rest of the climb up to Faiallo is very rideable. The arrival at the pass is spectacular, with the sudden view of the sea after the bend and the sudden change in the landscape from wooded to bare and almost alpine. A truly stupendous pass to be repeated in the autumn, starting from Genoa Voltri.
