The first passo I climbed during a 4-day vacation in Arabba. The experience was unfortunately slightly toned down because of bad weather, which included rain, fog and low temperatures. I was therefore mostly in a hurry to get warmed up and rode to the top as quick as possible. Because of how short the climb is, I reckon this is a great climb to go up and down for interval riding, but in my case the ride continued down the same side and onto the more famous Pordoi climb. It is obviously a necessity to ride this climb if you ride Sella Ronda anti-clockwise, but in my opinion you should probably tackle this passo from the Corvara side instead as part of a clockwise Sella Ronda trip.
The shortest climb on th Sellaronda, but still grat. Would probably rate it higher if I didn’t ride it the same day as Pordoi, Gardena and Sella.
7/10 If this climb had been in a different area the rating would definitely have been higher, but it's not. I found it quite a nice climb, a bit steeper than the others in the Sella Ronda and also nice and short. In terms of scenery it is obviously not the most beautiful of the lap but the descent to Corvara is a really nice one! Top road surface and nice curves :)
This climb was a first for me again since ages (I'm only used to the flat Netherlands where the wind is the biggest resistance😉 ) I find it pretty tough despite not being very long. The parts where the 8% is tapped had to be switched to the smallest newspaper...the views are only quite there in the beginning when you see Arabba in depth for a moment. Otherwise, the climb is a 'must' for the Sella Ronda lap. At the top you'll find some catering before starting the stunning descent to Corvara.
Done during the sella ronda bike day. Perhaps the easiest of the four Sellaronda climbs. Always worthwhile scenery and good asphalt.
Fatta durante il sella ronda bike day.
Not so interesting climb, a bit boring. Maybe last km is more interesting. If you on Sella Ronda, you have to do this. Decent towards Corvara is very nice with lots of curves.
Of the Sellaronda, this is the easiest of the passes. Shorter and with gentler inclines. Views are "not the best" if compared with those you get on the other three passes, but remember: you are in the Dolomiti and any road pretty much anywhere has some of the most breathtaking views you can see anywhere (yes, I am biased and I am proud of it haha).
When I cycled here it was around midday in summer so the main problem was the heat. Other than that, traffic was light and I mostly encountered other cyclist or cows in the pastures next to the road.
SellarondaBikeDay 7/9/2024. An experience you absolutely must try. The Campolongo Pass is not the most complicated of the four passes. The difference in altitude is not great and the panorama is not like the next passes. But you have to pass through here if you want to return to the starting point. The descent among the 4 passes is the one that can be tackled at higher speeds.
SellarondaBikeDay 7/9/2024.
A relatively small pass by Alpine standards, which leads steadily first through the village, then through meadows and forests, without any major highlights.
When you ride in the Dolomites, the likelihood is that you ride this pass a number of times, possibly from both sides. I would say it is short and sweet, good gradient, some nice hairpins and good views of the Arabba valley and the Sella. One of those passes you dash up before breakfast but it is a lovely ride. The road surface can be a bit challenging, especially towards the top.
For me, too, it is the most anonymous climb of the four on the tour. Panorama a little less beautiful than the others, little variation and a summit that is not that interesting. Paradoxically, the dive towards Corvara is much more fun, where you can develop a good speed without taking excessive risks.
Although the pass is called Campolongo, it is a short pass. Before you know it, you are on top; the climb is not too hard either. Of all the passes of the Sella Ronda, this is the least spectacular. The road surface is fine.
If you are based in Corvara, you will climb this pass too often as it is kind of unavoidable. But it is short and over before you know it. The other side is more interesting as it is a good climb for intervals . If you are into that while on vacation :-)
In my Sella Ronda with start in Canazei the Passo Campolongo was the second climb on the cycling program (counter clockwise Pordoï/Campolongo/Gardena/Sella).
The touristic Arabba is left behind deep under you via 3 short hairpin bends, where you also cycle through the village of Varda. Middle part of the short climb is quite steep (8-10) with again 3 hairpin turns, turning into a slightly rising wide straight road to the pass height.
Top is plateau with some hotels and very quiet compared to the Pordoï. Maybe also because the view here is not so spectacular.
Shortest and least appealing climb from the Sella Ronda foursome.
Still worth the "cycling effort"!
