Lovely climb. Less steep and less crowded than Alpe d Huez. Good to do with heat, you mostly climb up between the trees. At the top of the pass, it is a short descent towards Huez on a not too wide road. I (fortunately) did not encounter any big cars here. If they were to meet you, it becomes a trickier story. All in all, cool climb to tick off, if you spend several days in this area.
Heerlijke klim. Minder steil en minder druk dan de Alpe d Huez. Goed te doen met warmte, je klimt grotendeels tussen de bomen omhoog. Boven aan de Pas is het een stukje afdalen richting Huez over een niet al te breed weggetje. Ik kwam (gelukkig) geen grote auto’s hier tegen. Als die je tegemoet zouden komen wordt het een lastiger verhaal. Al met al, gave klim om, als je meerdere dagen in dit gebied bent, af te vinken.
Nice gentle climb to Pas de la Confession from Allemond. Fine for warm weather ivm shade during almost the entire climb. Just before and after Villar Reculas you are rewarded with fantastic views. Last bits narrow but fine to do given little traffic.
Mooie rustige klim naar Pas de la Confession vanuit Allemond. Prima voor warm weer ivm schaduw tijdens bijna de gehele klim. Vlak voor en na Villar Reculas worst je beloond met fantastische uitzichten. Laatste stukjes smal maar gezien weinige verkeer prima te doen.
Nice alternative climb where you end up in Huez via Villard Reculas. The climb is quite diverse.
The start is quite easy, after which it soon gets steeper in a wooded area. The tricky part here is in the irregularity. Sections of 4-6％ alternate rapidly with sections of 8-14％. An unwell knee personally made it difficult to really pedal through at the end. Indeed, after the steep hairpin zone, the road really flattens out to accelerate. Best to cycle up here and not take the route the other way, as there is new tarmac and unsealed gravel on the road. After a short descent, you pass through Villard Reculas with nice narrow streets (watch out for other traffic!) and are rewarded with a balcony with great views over the Oisans valley. Highly recommended!
Leuke alternatieve klim waar je via Villard Reculas in Huez uitkomt. De klim is vrij divers.
Het begin is vrij eenvoudig, waarna het al snel steiler wordt in een bosrijke omgeving. Het lastige hier zit in de onregelmatigheid. Stukken van 4-6％ wisselen zich in rap tempo af met stukken van 8-14％. Een onwelwillende knie maakte het persoonlijk lastig om echt door te trappen op het einde. Na de steile haarspeldzone vlakt de weg namelijk echt af om te versnellen. Beste is hier omhoog te fietsen en niet de route andersom te pakken, want er is nieuw geasfalteerd en ligt nog niet ingereden grind op de weg. Na een korte afdaling, kom je door Villard Reculas met leuke smalle straatjes (opletten op overig verkeer!) en word je beloond met een balkon met een geweldig uitzicht over de vallei van Oisans. Flinke aanrader!
Ridden this magnificent climb last week. Very quiet compared to the Alp, where you have a nice view of the last part.
Also recommended during the hot summer days because you have lots of forest and shade. Beautiful views, tough parts, but a climb not to be missed!
Deze prachtige klim afgelopen week gereden. Heerlijk rustig ten opzichte van de Alp waar je mooi zicht op hebt het laatste deel.
Ook tijdens de warme zomerdagen een aanrader doordat je veel bos en schaduw hebt. Mooie uitzichten, pittige stukken, maar een klim om niet te missen!

Just before Villard Reculas you cycle over a "balcony" where you have a magnificent view into the valley of the Oisans. The passage through the narrow streets of Villard Recuals is not spacious but fun.
De alternatieve beklimming naar l'Alpe d'Huez. Deze weg is veel rustiger dan de beroemde klim met 21 haarspeldbochten. Hij is zeker niet te onderschatten omdat er toch een paar steiler stukken tussen zitten. Het eerste stuk fiets je grotendeels door het bos en heeft de nodige brede haarspeldbochten. Als het warm is (het wordt hier overigens minder heet door de bossen en de ligging dan de traditionele klim) willen er nog weleens veel vliegen zijn.
Net voor Villard Reculas fiets je over een "balkon" waar je een schitterend uitzicht de vallei van de Oisans in hebt. De doortocht door de smalle straatjes van Villard Recuals is niet ruim maar wel leuk.

Deze prachtige beklimming gedaan op weg naar de Col de Sarenne, eerste stuk is vrij geleidelijk omhoog door het bos, na Villard Reculas heb je prachtige uitzichten vanaf het balkon op het dal. Aangekomen bij Pas de la Confession kijk je neer op het begin van de Alpe d'Huez. Na een klein stukje afdalen op de Alpe d'Huez tot La Garde, kan je de "balkon route" vervolgen om onder bij Lac du Chambon uit te komen.
