Deze klim kan tot nader bericht niet worden gedaan. De houten brug die bij de brandweerkazerne over de Randweg ligt en de verbinding vormt tussen Oude Akerweg en Heuvel is door de gemeente Vaals afgesloten. Reden is de zeer slechte staat waarin de brug verkeerd en veiligheid voor wandelaars en fietsers niet gewaarborgd is. De brug zal komende tijd vervangen worden maar vooralsnog is onduidelijk wanneer de werkzaamheden zullen aanvangen en eindigen.

Op de weg van Holset naar Lemiers ga je de Oude Akerweg op richting Vaals. T.h.v. de Schuurmolenweg begint de klim. Het steilste stuk zit achter vakantiepark Hoog Vaals. Vlak voor de brandweerkazerne vlakt het af en ga je via het bruggetje over de Rondweg heen. Een stukje verder binnen de bebouwde kom ben je op de top.

Beautiful narrow road. Absolutely car-free (pole in the middle) and largely through a green tunnel. After a relaxed start the road rises sharply until you can see the sky again. After that it is only a matter of cycling until you cross the bridge in Vaals.
NB: The small bridge on the Oude Akerweg at the start of this climb has been washed away by heavy rainfall and flooding (July 2021). For this climb you have to go via the Schuurmolenweg (from the main road Lemiers-Vaals).
Mooi smal weggetje. Absoluut autovrij (paal in het midden) en grotendeels door een groene tunnel. Na een relaxed begin gaat het weggetje sterk stijgen tot je weer de lucht kan zien. Daarna is het uitfietsen tot je over de brug in Vaals terecht komt.
NB: Het bruggetje op de Oude Akerweg aan het begin van deze klim is door de hevige regenval en overstromingen weggeslagen (juli 2021). Voor deze klim dus voorlopig aanrijden via de Schuurmolenweg (vanaf de hoofdweg Lemiers-Vaals).
A rather unknown way to cycle to Vaals. Small road, free of traffic, maybe more like a footpath. Lovely to cycle here though. You arrive from a descent and get the first bit for free. After that, it gets seriously steep and you have to keep pedalling.
Redelijk onbekende manier om naar Vaals te fietsen. Smal weggetje, verkeersvrij, misschien meer een wandelpad. Wel heerlijk om hier te fietsen. Je komt vanuit een afdaling aanrijden en krijgt het eerste stukje dus gratis. Daarna wordt het wel serieus stijl en moet je alsnog goed doortrappen.
