Nice climb to a cozy ski resort Orcières-Merlette. The ski resort is deeply hidden in the valley of the Drac which rises nearby. If you come from the south you are obliged to climb the wide ridge of the Col Bayard or the Col de Manse. The climb itself doesn't start in Orcières but somewhere after Pont-du-Fossé. The road rises with parts of a few percent and sometimes a bit more on a busy straight road. Before reaching the hairpins you have already climbed 300m. After Orcières, the climb becomes more of an alpine climb with some sections reaching 9％. The profile doesn't do the climb justice because it is a bit more irregular. At the top, there is a beautiful view of the mountains on the other side of the valley and the peaks up from the ski station where the ski lifts go up.
Leuke klim naar een gezellig skistation Orcières -Merlette. Het skigebied ligt diep verstopt in het dal van de Drac die hier in de buurt ontspringt. Als je vanuit het zuiden komt dan ben je verplicht de brede rug van de Col Bayard of de Col de Manse over te klimmen. De klim zelf start niet pas in Orcières maar al ergens na Pont-du-Fossé. De weg stijgt met stukken van enkele procenten en af en toe iets meer al redelijk omhoog over een drukke doorgaande en rechte weg. Voordat je aan de haarspelden begint heb je al 300m geklommen. Na Orcières krijgt de klim meer een echte Alpencol karakter waarbij de stukken af en toe 9％ aantikken. Het profiel doet de klim niet helemaal recht want deze is wat onregelmatiger. Boven aangekomen is er een prachtig uitzicht op de bergen aan de overkant van het dal en de pieken omhoog vanaf het skistation waar de skiliften omhoog gaan.
