Coming from Biasca it starts climbing a few kilometers before you hit the climb, which of course adds to the difficulty of this climb. The climb itself is well described by the profile: Long, steep parts, interrupted by some shorter, flatter sections. The first part winds towards Chironico, with limited views but many hairpin turns. The second part goes through the woods, which limits the views even more. However, the road here is an attraction in itself, with rock walls and steep drops. The ... read more

The first part winds towards Chironico, with limited views but many hairpin turns.
The second part goes through the woods, which limits the views even more. However, the road here is an attraction in itself, with rock walls and steep drops.
The last part is mostly through a meadow, and here you reach the village of Gribbio. This part offers some beautiful views down the valley.
The road through Gribbio is cobbled and it seems they forgot to even out the cobbles at all. The rest of the road, however, has very nice tarmac.
There are some cars on the road towards Chironico, but afterwards the traffic is almost non-existent.

Beautiful, challenging climb; the gradients measured by my Garmin are higher than those above; some peaks at 15%, often at 11%. I don't know how reliable this can be, but my legs agreed😃. Almost no traffic (1 car downhill). When you get to Gribbio don't be frightened by the cobbled road; 100m and out of the village it's back to asphalt.
The initial descent has a few road patches but is already asphalted. To do.

Traffico quasi nullo (1 macchina in discesa). Quando si arriva a Gribbio non spaventarti dalla trada ciottolata; 100mt e fuori paese ritorna asfalto.
La discesa iniziale presenta alcuni rattoppi stradali ma già asfaltati. Da fare.
