To make the ascent to Monte Rua more challenging, one can choose to start from a diversion between Galzignano and Torreglia, instead of from the centre of Torreglia. This choice imposes a very difficult passage on the so-called Muro di Vallorto (Vallorto Wall), a stretch of five hundred metres that is truly challenging. We start by turning left off the road that leads from Galzignano and Torreglia and enter a small road that does not seem to cause concern at first. After a few hundred metres you begin to climb gently, but the worst comes from the restaurant "Alla Vigna" onwards. It starts with a couple of tight hairpin bends (gradient around 15%) and continues in a straight line again on a very steep gradient. The paradox is that even along this very hard segment you need to conserve some energy because the sequel will be very heavy. The last stretch before the Torreglia Alta cemetery, characterised by its concrete surface, climbs up to gradients of more than 20%, although for a rather short distance. The cemetery of Torreglia Alta can be the arrival point for the less well-trained, or provide a little rest before setting off again for the ascent of Monte Rua or the ascent to Castelnuovo, both of which are rather tiring.
The downhill section of the Vallorto wall is to be avoided. Tight, tight bends and the steepness of the profile force you to be constantly on the brakes.
