Climbing Monte Amiata from this side, the gradients are quite pleasant (the road from Castel del Piano has much steeper sections). You cycle in the forest almost all the way, so it should be fine on warmer days in summer too because of the shade. Downside of this is that there is not really a view from where the road ends, as it is surrounded by forest still. At the end of the road there are a number of restaurants/bars where you can eat something and get a drink. You have to walk up the last bit if you want to get to the actual summit of Monte Amiata.
