Not so easy… The first part of the climb is the road to the Petit Saint Bernard Pass. A long stretch of this road has been recently repaved. Thanks for this smooth as a billiard table surface. The gradients are as gentle and soothing as the road itself. And then, we turn left toward Saint Germain, and that’s when the real work begins. We leave the heavy traffic of the D1090 behind. The road surface deteriorates considerably as the gradients suddenly become steep. A mix of fairly steep climb... read more

Not so easy…
The first part of the climb is the road to the Petit Saint Bernard Pass.
A mix of fairly steep climbs and welcome flat stretches. Three beautiful switchbacks. Cows. Beautiful hairpin turns.
From Mont Villaret, the view of the valley isn’t half bad. 4 stars (admittedly a bit generous) for its irregular gradients and switchbacks.

Made on the morning of May 27.
The real slopes begin when we leave the Rte du Petit St Bernard, and I find the climb more difficult than the profile suggests.
The road is narrow and the asphalt is fine, and on a hot day, a few passages in the shade are beneficial.
After the hamlet of Mont Villaret, 2.5km remain on a very narrow road in average condition.
There are hardly any cars, and the scenery is magnificent.
