The climb is pretty boring. And offers no shade. But the surroundings where you cycle are fantastic. The roads go through forests, with many fields full of cattle and nice villages. Real nature in a not too touristy part of the Massif Central. Keep in mind that there are 1000 altimeters per 50 km. A lot of up and down. The D-roads are all quiet and the road surface is generally good. The climb to the same volcanic lake as this one, but from Pont d'Alleyras, was nicer.
