Starting from the roundabout it goes via one of the (busy) exit streets, to climb out of the center of university city Leuven, slightly uphill to turn right just before the ring viaduct and its entrance. From the St.Jansschool on the corner you then climb just as steeply on perfect concrete bicycle lanes (cobblestones are only in the middle of the road) to the highest point of the Mechelsevest.
No problem for sporty cyclists but students on their dilapidated bikes have more trouble with this!
