Done on 9 May 2024 on a beautiful afternoon. Being from the area, I did this climb about twenty years ago and would never have done it again if I hadn't found the profile on Climbfinder. Back then I was younger and stronger, but I had a lot of development work to do on my bike and I remember struggling a lot. It's a wilder and more difficult climb than its neighbour, Le Plan du Four: https://climbfinder.com/fr/montees/le-plan-du-four-saint-paul-sur-isere
From the start the gradient is steep 8-9-10% , the tarmac is good to medium, 3 small hamlets will be crossed (La Poyat, La Fouettaz and le Plan du Chouet), after the sign indicating Rte à viabilité incertain (road of uncertain viability) there are 3Km left, the road surface becomes very mixed and the double-digit percentages follow one another between 11 and 13% until about 500M from the finish where the gradient becomes manageable again.
It's worth noting that there are 21 crossings on the final section, which isn't a problem on the way up, but be careful on the way down.
Conclusion: A difficult climb that becomes steeper and wilder as the final stretch approaches. Despite the fact that a large part of the route is in the woods, there are still a few gaps that offer great views.
Definitely worth doing if you're on holiday nearby.
