A fairly demanding climb, but one that offers a lot of excitement, both in terms of the landscape - the views that open up in front of us along the entire route are very impressive - and in terms of the sporting aspect: it is certainly a great challenge to tackle the steep ramps of this lonely climb! I was able to tackle it in the late afternoon and only encountered one car on the way up, but I believe that traffic is very limited throughout the day... read more

After the ford, the challenging continuous climb to Los Brecitos begins. The very first kilometre is a borderline experience with gradients of up to 17 %. The single-lane road winds its way upwards in countless hairpin bends. On the ascent, you have the route you have just travelled to the ford in view, knowing that this will also have to be mastered afterwards. A constant companion on the ascent is the chirping of crickets and lizards disappearing from the road. The views into the caldera become ever deeper, the views of the Atlantic to the west ever more sublime. A passage between several houses halfway along the route causes the gradient indicator to shoot up again to 18 %. On the last few kilometres, the cyclist is immersed in pine forests and can breathe in the inimitable scent of pine trees.
The end point is a simple turning point that rewards the effort with magnificent views of the caldera and views of the Atlantic Ocean and Los Llanos.
On the descent, don't be surprised if, despite the speed limit (see sign) on the narrow road, taxis make it clear that they want to go faster.

This is a superb climb!
To get to the start you must complete ~150m high nasty little hill (if you start in Los Llanos) and cross a river bed. This is the only part where wide tires are really useful. If you are fine with wet feet, carrying the bike is an option, too. Now the fun starts. The first kilometer is brutally steep, but it gets easier. The ascent is quite uneven, with many little (partly steep) ascents, followed by plain sections and some smaller descents. During the whole climb you can enjoy spectacular views into the caldera and on Puerto de Tazacorte. Only taxis have access to the road, no private cars. Hence, traffic is not a big issue. Nevertheless be careful, in particular when descending. Some taxi drivers are reckless - time is money for them.
