I did Navacelles as part of a long ride from Arboras (Col du Vent) to Mont Aigoual. It was an outing of over 200km, and Navacelles in the middle was a tough one, because although the route isn't very long, it's no less demanding. What a magnificent landscape!... read more

Quel magnifique paysage !!!

Ah the Cirque de Navacelles ... My country, this place ! Very nice Cévennes climb, with a beautiful panorama at the top, but being from the Cévennes I'm certainly not objective!

Beautiful climb. For a round trip, you can drive from the south to Vissec (also there a very nice descent and climb which unfortunately are not yet on this site), and then via Blandas descend north to the Cirque de Navacelles, to start this climb.

Prachtige klim.

I did this variant in June 2020. Really a super combination of fairly tough climbing with beautiful views. The start is in the cirque itself which is created from an old bend in the river Vis, which carves out the valley
in the limestone of the Causses. Near the start the river Vis flows into a beautiful waterfall. If you have time, go and have a look and take a dive (if you like ice cold water ;))

The climb itself is not really hard, but you get no rest. Good for the diesels among us (including me). The tarmac is not perfect, but certainly good enough. The traffic was fine in my case, I think I have 4 cars's passing, but I guess that in August that can be different.

Cirque de Navacelles is pretty isolated, so you'll have to cycle through a (less interesting) area to get there. It will be quiet though!
