A rock-hard , but beautiful, sloper. The whole border region with Italy is phenomenally beautiful and peaceful. Ridden in very hot weather, which was draining. Seen maybe two cars the whole climb, very quiet. My two water bottles were empty in no time. A compact crankset with a 25 behind was struggling on some steep sections. Tip is that about halfway up there is a sort of waterfall from a wall to the right of the road (in a sort of well) where you can refill water.... read more

Mijn twee bidonnen waren binnen no time leeg.

We did the climb from Tolmin based on the reviews here. Unfortunately, I have to say. The climb is actually not very fascinating. About 3 times a nice view, otherwise not fascinating. The descent to Idrsko, on the other hand, was beautiful. Lots of views and variety in scenery.

If you want to go for a good time, take this side (because the abandonment means you don't look around anyway) and do the descent slowly and enjoy. If you just want to enjoy yourself during the climb, definitely do the other side.

Long, steep climb. Very nice, excellent tarmac and very, very quiet. Descend in the direction of Idrsko, via Kobarid across the Soca and then back to Tolmin and you make a nice round of it!

At the top there is a small open air museum. This region has had a long and fierce frontline in ww1 and here you can see some bunkers etc.

Lange, steile klim.
