The climb can't keep up in terms of views, but is mostly shady.

Firm climb mainly through a forest, with the initial kilometres being especially steep. Past the ski lift, it continues for a while to the large car park, where the actual summit lies. Not a climb you will long remember, but rather one to 'just' have on your record.

In and around the lake area of South Carinthia are 3 peaks: Mittagskogel, Villacher Alpe ( Dobratsch) and the Gerlitzen.
The first is only accessible on foot, the Alp is busy and a longer climb the Gerlitzen is the ski mountain of the region.
You can go up from three sides, but you can't cycle from side to side. (You can do this with a gravel bike or MTB).
The Kanzelhohe is the ski center of the south side and I had already driven up the road many times.
With bike from the Wortersee hit and then starts the climb .... Not because of the view, no, 11, 12% or more rise is normal. After the toll gate, you continue with a view of the valley and then you disappear into the forest. 9-11% remains the norm where you have few turns or views. In the winter I felt like there was a downhill section in the climb but that was probably a mirage; in the summer it keeps going up.
It remains a forest climb and when you are almost at the top the area opens up and you drive right onto the slopes.
A plate of spaghetti or käzespatzle is welcome and when you start descending you can really enjoy some of the views.
