Juniper Lane is extraordinary. Firstly, it's steep, and the steepness starts at the get-go. You can see from the profile graph that it starts at 13%, and that is no misrepresentation. The approach road is flat, and then you turn onto a 13% ramp. If you're not in a low gear as you turn in you'll most likely have to stop because you lose speed so quickly and don't have time to change down. It's happened to me. The steepness keeps going as well, with no let off until close to the top. Secondly, it's narrow. I don't think I've seen a narrower 2 way road anywhere, and this can be a problem when cars come the other way, because the hedges are packed in so tightly to the road that there's nowhere to go between the passing places. It might be the narrowest road I've seen, full stop, due to the lack of verges.
However, this climb needs to be experienced, and while you wouldn't want to use it every time you cross over the Flackwell Heath ridge it's worth taking on at least once. Hopefully you won't get baulked by traffic.
Regarding scenery, the road is so closely hemmed in by trees and bushes that there are no views, but at least the surroundings are green.
