Leuke klim met een mooi uitzicht. Als je met de mountain/gravelbike bent kan je boven rechts afslaan en offroad gaan, ook zeker de moeite waard! Die strook heeft ooit eens in de koers 'Dwars door het Hageland' gezeten.
Nicer and quieter alternative to the Wall of Houwaart. It is also safer than the Houwaartseberg, because on that narrow strip you often cross cyclists who have climbed the Kriesberg from the other side and come down at breakneck speed.
The first part up to the right-hand bend is steeper, after the left-hand turn it hurts a bit. Afterwards, through the trees, it goes up and down in an undulating way, ideal to go full speed ahead.

Prachtige klim. Flauwe aanloop en tussen de bomen toch steil genoeg om pijn te doen. Na het linksaf slaan een geweldig uitzicht over de wijnranken en een pittoresk dal. De weg bovenop de heuvelrug is prachtig met prima asfalt.
Vanuit hier door naar Houwaart, een nauwe afdaling door een holleweg en rechtsaf de Muur van Houwaart op.

Nice climb that never gets really steep. After the turn at Wijngaardstraat you have a nice view over the hillside full of vineyards. For me this slope is one of the nicer ones included in the Sven Nys route.
Mooie beklimming die nooit echt steil wordt. Na de bocht ter hoogte van de Wijngaardstraat heb je een mooi uitzicht over de heuvelrug vol wijnranken. Deze helling is voor mij een van de mooiere hellingen die opgenomen zijn in de Sven Nys route.
This slope runs parallel to the Houwaart wall, but is longer (and thus less steep). But absolutely worthwhile. At the bottom it runs well. Once you're between the trees the path becomes steeper. At the houses you can catch your breath again. When you turn up at the house with the many garden gnomes, it hurts a bit. It is not long anymore, but there it is the steepest. And at the top it doesn't descend very well.

Aan de huizen kan je weer wat op adem komen. Als je aan het huis met de vele tuinkabouters opdraait, doet het wel even pijn. Het is niet lang meer, maar daar is ze het steilst. En boven loopt het ook niet echt dalend.

Alternatief voor de muur van Houwaert. Mooie klim die geleidelijk aan steiler wordt en eindigt op een glooiende baan langs de Wijngaarden. Vergeet hier niet eens links en rechts van het prachtige uitzicht te genieten!
Beautiful climb on this side and harder than it looks because the percentages run at some short parts well above 10 ％ ( to the ugly house with the gnomes ) . I always ride the mountain bike and the spur is through a beautiful forest but on a good tarmac road.
Prachtige beklimming langs deze kant en zwaarder dan zou lijken want de percentages lopen op sommige wel korte stukjes ruim boven de 10 ％ ( aan het lelijke huis met de kabouters ) . Ik rij altijd met de mountenbike en de uitloper is door een prachtig bos maar op een goede asfaltweg.
Are you looking for a nicer alternative, in terms of environment, than the Wall of Houwaart then the Solleweg is a nice option. You climb through the trees to the top. Apart from the ugly house with garden gnomes on the left, this is a nice and difficult road to the same ridge in Houwaart. Interesting to do your loops in the other direction.
Zoek je een mooier alternatief, wat omgeving betreft, dan de Muur van Houwaart dan is de Solleweg een leuke optie. Je klimt namelijk door de bomen naar boven. Buiten dan het spuuglelijke huis met tuinkabouters op links is dit een mooie en lastige weg naar hetzelfde heuvelruggetje in Houwaart. Interessant om je lusjes een keertje in de andere richting te rijden.
