However you approach this climb, it'll be a downhill into the small hamlet of Elkington before either a right or left turn, and you're into the steepest section of this climb, with an average of 8% for the first 200 m. This is a narrow but well surfaced and in my experience quiet road. The hill eases off, and just shy of 800 m it turns into downhill and with no hedges separating you from the fields, it feels wonderfully open. Turn right on the busier but still relatively quiet Stanford Road and the hill kicks again as you head up Honey Hill. A false flat about half way up this final section of the climb before the final push up to the summit. And you're now just a short downhill into Cold Ashby, remoured to be the highest village in Northamptonshire.
Overall, a nice tester of the legs and CV system.
