This climb actually starts in the town of Ibarra. The first kilometre of the climb runs along the GI-3211 on a good road. After a first break, take the shorter road to Belauntza. The asphalt becomes concrete for a few metres and the slope becomes very steep until you leave Belauntza. Then take another turning to the left and the road runs along a road in good condition until you reach the cemetery.
From here onwards, the climb is very steep and very constant. As you climb, the landscape becomes clearer and you can see Mount Ernio in the distance and the villages of Ibarra and Tolosa at your feet.
The final part of the climb becomes even more complicated, as the asphalt becomes grated concrete, which makes it difficult to pull the bike.
There is very little traffic, especially on the final part of the climb. You will only come across people who live in farmhouses or who go to eat at the restaurant in Belauntza) and the landscape is green, surrounded by farms, farmhouses and animal farms.
The end of this climb ends in the middle of the ascent to Mount Erroizpe, a fairly traditional climb in the area for hiking.
En realidad esta subida empieza en la localidad de Ibarra. El primer kilómetro de ascensión circula por la GI-3211 por buena carretera. Tras un primer descanso, se toma la carretera más corta que va a Belauntza. El aslfalto pasa a ser cemento en algunos metros y la pendiente se vuelve muy violenta hasta que salimos de Belauntza. Después, se toma otro desvío a la izquierda y la carretera transcurre por una carretera en buen estado hasta que se llega al cementerio.
A partir de aquí, la subida tiene unas rampas durísimas y muy constantes. A medida que subes metros, el paisaje se despeja y se puede ver a lo lejos el monte Ernio y a tus pies los pueblos de Ibarra y Tolosa.
La parte final de la subida se complica todavía más, ya que es asfalto pasa a ser cemento rallado, lo que dificulta la tracción de la bicicleta.
Hay muy poco tráfico, sobre todo en la parte final de la subida. Tan solo te encontrarás a gente que vive en caseríos o que va a comer a comer al restaurante de Belauntza y el paisaje es verde, rodeado de bordas, caseríos y granjas de animales. Muy característico del interior del País Vasco.
El final de esta ascensión termina en medio de la subida al monte Erroizpe, una subida bastante tradicional en la zona donde practicar senderismo.
