Anyone who has ever driven to Monschau by car or (especially) motorbike knows this wonderful combination of bends. With the bike, it goes a lot slower, but then again, it is enjoying the road that is not straight for a single meter. The climb starts already in Monschau itself and along some half-timbered houses and other buildings it goes up immediately. Keep right at the roundabout. You can cycle on the road but it can be very busy (although there is a kind of narrow "hard shoulder" where no cars're driving). Fortunately, there is a good tarmac footpath/cycle path on the right-hand side of the road. Narrow but the chance of meeting other pedestrians or cyclists here is small. Bend after bend, the road winds up through beautiful surroundings, sometimes with nice views to the rear. Finally, there is a straight section. Just after that, the road flattens out. All in all, a nice course. Pity about the crowds even though they do not bother you.
