There are several climbs like this in the Chilterns, where the road follows a long valley up from the south east, gradually climbing. If you're looking for an easy route over the Chilterns, these roads are a good choice. Hampden Road is a good example of one of these climbs, with a gradient that slightly fluctuates, making you work to maintain cadence. It's mainly between high hedges, but there's a small section in woodland further up. It's slightly more challenging than the adjacent Bryant's Bottom climb, but does also carry slightly more traffic. It's good for group riding, the group will not be split up by a steep climb, people can take turns to make the pace, but the fluctuations in gradient create opportunities for a cheeky attack or two.
