If you're riding east from Ruthin then this climb makes for an easy crossing of the Clwydian Hills at their southerly end. The gradient is consistent and easy so settle into a rhythm and enjoy 3.3 km of steady climbing rising above the Vale of Clwyd. The road is wide and the surface good but expect a steady flow of traffic as it's the A494. The only really awkward section is the two hairpin bends at the bottom where large vehicles have insufficient distance to overtake safely between the two corners. A fair number of lorries use the route. I rode the climb on a Sunday and was fortunate to encounter only cars (it was still busy though). However, if this is your first visit to the area, and you have the legs, then don't miss the climb to Bwlch Penbarras which also starts from Llanbedr D.C. It's the finest climb in the area and justifiably *****
